JIMMY BEALMEAR MEMORIAL OPEN — SEPTEMBER 13 - 15 2019

The Loch Raven Skeet & Trap Center is proud to offer National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA) sanctioned events. Scores shot at these events are recorded as registered targets.

This is our final sanctioned shoot of the season and is in honor of all of our departed members who loved the clay shooting sports and supported the club over our history.

This is a 4-Gun Shoot for 12, 20 and 28 Gauge and .410 Caliber as well as Doubles on Friday afternoon. Shoot any or all gauges. The Doubles event will start at 1pm on Friday afternoon. The first rotation on Saturday and Sunday starts at 9:00 AM.

All registered shoots offered by LRSTC provide Juniors and Sub-Juniors the opportunity to shoot at significantly reduced rates.

Jim Bealmear started shooting the shotgun sport of skeet when he was only 8 years of age and first attended the Loch Raven Skeet and Trap Center (LRSTC) back in 1960s. By the time he was 15, he was competing in the sport at the national level as a member of the National Skeet Shooting Association. Over the years, this amazing shooter shot over 128,500 registered targets and won numerous yearly State and Zone Championships.

Early on, Jim was taken under the wing of LRSTC founder Harry Wright; but the real key to Jim’s shooting seems to have been his incredible dedication and concentration. By starting to shoot so early in life, Jim Bealmear had to hold the gun below his shoulder to get his head on the stock. That gun mount technique stayed with Jim his entire life. To others it may have looked awkward; but it was Jim’s trademark gun mount and he was deadly with it.

Jim Bealmear was recognized by the Maryland Skeet Shooting Association as a member of the ‘Maryland State Team’; a yearly award based on overall average in all four gauges (12, 20, 28 & .410 caliber), NSSA standards, targets shot and attendance at the State Shoot. The records (Maryland State Team) appear a bit sketchy prior to 1976 and to the extent that they are available, they show that Jim was a member of that team in the years of : 1981, ‘82, ‘83, ‘84, ‘87, ‘93, ‘94, ‘98, ‘99, 2000, ‘01 & ’02.

When Jim was diagnosed with cancer in 2016 he decided he wanted to give back to the skeet shooting community by sponsoring a shoot in his name. In January 2017 Jim passed away and the first annual Jimmy Bealmear Memorial was held in September 2017.

The Jimmy Bealmear Memorial Open on September 13-15, 2019, has an entree fee of $49 per gun with $TBD returned to shooters. Shoot any or all gauges. The first rotation starts at 9:00 AM.

The Center continues to take reservations for all our 2019 registered Skeet Shoots. To register, contact our Skeet Chair by email skeetchair@lochravenskeettrap.com.
